yes, it's a humor site. check out theonion.com to get an idea of the inspiration for the devotee version. get it? the hing, since we don't eat onions.

also, read the article about the brahmacarini who gets the hell out of the way. that one is pretty easy to get, and really funny too.

hope you're having a great day!

Hare Krsna. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
Sorry but after having lived in Albuq. for the past 18 years, there has not been an Iskcon or Hindu temple in this town, save for a new one started by Ameyatma Das last year.
Sorry, but this blog is a farce.

Just because you get starred at you feel inferior? May be people are starring because they are curious - how about saying "hello, Hare Bol" and making a friend? I recently met a lovely white American girl at our Baltimore temple who is new and we are both inspiring each other to move forward in our faith.

Well in Seattle the temple was built about 45 minutes out of town. These days an american walking in is usually one of a very few westerners present among the couple of hundred Hindus. Ecstatic kirtans give way to just standing and staring at the Deities. Westerners in devotional clothes get even more stares, even regulars. So I think at least my first hand experience confirms the crappy Hindu sect theory, as well as feeling inferior as the minority.

How about not playing the race card. This has zero to do with race and everything to do with the desire to not have ISKCON turned into a crappy Hindu sect.

The fear many non-Indian devotees harbor is that once the Indians take over, they will kick out the original members, and that the temples will become Hindu temples. Many non-Indian devotees are fearful that they might be exploited by the Indian community and expected to behave as menial servants to them. This may be the cause of the current rebellion against the Indian community. It is difficult for Americans especially, who have been ruling the world since their victory in World War II, to now see themselves as the servants, and the servants have become their masters. In spite of the philosophy and theory of Krishna consciousness, this is one of the fears that many, especially white devotees harbor.

ISKCON has become a worldwide religious phenomenon. In any huge organization there may be inevitable conflicts between different types of souls. Because we are stuck on the bodily platform, and are in all likelihood only theoretical devotees, we still make distinctions such as black, white, brown skin, etc. In our hearts we know we should lovingly welcome anyone of any ethnicity into the temple. But practically it will be difficult for people from different races and countries to get along with each other. The only tie we really have to each other is devotional service. Outside of devotional service we tend to end up bickering or even worse exploiting each other, because it is the Age of Quarrel and hypocrisy.

It is difficult for the original members of temples, who are often non-Indian to accept change. Many devotees worked for decades building those temples. Except for a few individuals at the top, most devotees received practically nothing in return for their hard fought service. It may sound grand in theory to state that ISKCON owes us nothing. But as a practical reality, it will hard to find people today who will be willing to lay down their lives for an organization, in return for receiving nothing.

Dear All,

I am an Indian physician born and raised in the good ol US of A and owe all my spiritual discovery to Srila Prabhupada. Though not a kuli, I consider myself one. Am I to believe that white devotees only think of me as a checkbook? So sad...if Indians are pushing foward the movement we should applaud them...make sure they are absorbing Srila Prabhupada's message as well. So sad that many are drawing a line in the sand.

I will keep donating, chanting, and loving Srila Prabhupada even if I am Indian, well-to-do and a doctor.
